hello again coach KW here today what we're going to do on episode three is we're going to go over that numbering position that I keep referring to in my
earlier videos because we're going to use this numbering system over and over again it's an international a National Standard uh the document I referred to came from the Newan RBS but it came from
US soccer um and it's a shorthand for describing roles and positions on the field so we're going to use the tactic board and we're going to go through them
all and I'll you some graphics to help reinforce this and then we'll relate it to the 7v7 game all right here we go okay let's use the tactics board
again to go over our position numbers so always as the keeper number one so there they are so now let's go with our center backs so our center backs our two center
backs are our four and our five so that's four and the five so in 11 V1 we then have fullbacks usually in a traditional full two and that's a two
and a three so we have a one four and five in the middle two and a three here we're going to skip the middle of the field for one second we're going to
go with our Wingers and that's a seven and that's an 11 um how I remember these is uh Mo Salah one of my favorite players is number 11 but he's left footed so he
plays on the opposite side of his foot or inverted and I think of Ronaldo as being right footed and he plays on this side it's just how I remember the seven
and 11 but we have our nine will be our Striker all right so we've kind of got the outside of the field going on now we have our one four and five two and three
fullbacks a seven 11 and nine now the middle of the field this is where it gets special and when we relate it to 7b7 you'll see why a defensive midfielder is a
six a center midfielder or sometimes called a box tobox midfielder is an eight and attacking midfielder is a 10 so what's nice is it's really easy to
remember these three positions because it goes 6 8 10 right no sort of Randomness they wouldn't play in a line like this a lot of times they'd be split
out like this perhaps or whatever in different formations you don't have to have all the numbers so for example in um some types of formations we don't
have an eight we have two sixes two holding midfielders or defensive midfielders with a 10 like this in other formations we might not have twos and threes but actually just have another
Center back so three center backs and these players here sometimes are called Wing backs a lot of times in a um 343 you may have something like that
going on uh so there are lots of different ways to do it you don't always need to have all the play players however when we do 7v7 we get rid of a
few places we get rid of the two and the three we'll pull our midfielders off for now so right now we have six players we need one more player here right and
that's our Central midfielder we play that player as at eight usually so this player is responsible of connecting through here keeping this diamond shape connecting protecting this
area but they get up and down one of the uh common things that I like to coach my Midfield is because what happens a lot of times is they get very anxious and
they end up next to the striker and taking up the same space what I tell them a lot is stay behind the ball so if the ball is over here they're taking a
good angle helping this player if the ball is up here they're behind the ball they''re taking a good angle and supporting the number nine the only time
they're not behind the ball obviously if it comes back here but the unique thing in 7v7 is this player can morph we can tell this player with just a simple
command if we've taught our players these numbers the four and the five seven and the 11 the nine the striker it's this middle one here by telling
this player very simply hey I need you to play as a six that conveys information to them to say I'm going to hang back a little bit I'm going to play
a little bit deeper protect this because I'm being a little bit more defensive again maybe you're up couple goals near the end of the game or maybe you're
playing a relatively strong team and you just want to take it take take the risk out of the game for a little bit conversely you're down by a goal you
need a goal I can tell my central midfielder hey act as a 10 play as a 10 and that's all I have to say to them I
don't have to use any complicated words I don't have to yell that much across the field I can just say to that player hey I need you to be a 10 they know what
that means now they're going to be more offensive they're now going to push forward a little bit further when we're attacking and support this nine and maybe even go past this nine if the
opportunity arrives on my first set of uh magnets I actually for this player I wrote right on the magnet 6- 8-10 so that my players knew this player
could do one of three jobs just depends on how the game is going right so that's the numbering system and again at the 77 level that's where you begin with where
you have your one and your four and your five you have your 7 and 11 you have your nine which is always a striker and then we start as an eight but we could
be a six or a 10 back in the old days the jersey numbers on the players literally they wore the number of the position they were primarily playing in
442 um now it's much more flexible but that's where some of these this numbering came from is a combination of who had the right number at the right
position now it's more of a rooll 711s a wide midfielders that run up and down Striker your center backs your two and your three are your fullbacks and then
you have your special 6 8 10 depending how you want to deploy your Midfield you could have two 10 and a six you could have a six and eight and a 10 you can
have two sixes and a 10 two sixes and an eight you can do lots of different things once it gets further on in 11 V1 but for now
7v7 the most key piece to get your kids to remember is this 6810 part right in the middle hope that makes sense well I hope that overview is helpful it's
really important to teach your kids early on the numbering system at 7v7 it's pretty easy most of the numbers are self-explanatory and I promise you my third graders got this in their brains
within two weeks of pre-season they were barely out of second grade they can do this and they remember it and it becomes a useful tool for you as a shorthand
when you need the call out positions or even when you're doing out your starting positions or your subs you can tell somebody hey you're going in you play
seven you 11 I mean you're four and a five I need you to play as an eight I need you to play as a six I need you to
play as a 10 easy ways to communicate with your team and it gets them on the same page because as I get older other coaches once they get to high school and
Beyond use this terminology all the time so I hope this was useful for you I hope it made some sense for you and I strongly encourage you to work on
teaching this to your kids so that they have the vocabulary early on so they can use it throughout their careers that's all I have for today I'll see you real
