7v7 Soccer — Attack with Width: The One Principle That Unlocks Everything Technical

Part of the series: 7v7 Topics, 7v7 Soccer - the 2026 edition

About this video

You've played out of the back — now what do you actually do with it? This is Video 5 in the 7v7 series, and I'm moving into the attack phase. Everything in this video comes back to one tactical principle: use the width of the field. Get that right and the three technical concepts below become much easier. Skip it and you'll spend the whole game fighting in a traffic jam. The one tactical principle: Width. When your wide players hold their positions on the touchlines, the defending team has to stretch to cover them — and the moment they stretch, space opens up everywhere else. If your whole team is within the width of the center circle, you're making the other team's job easy. The three attacking concepts: 1v1, 2v1 & 2v2 — Your wide players in space create 1v1 opportunities. Win the 1v1 and it becomes a 2v1. Can't win the 2v2? Survive it long enough to turn it into a 2v1 somewhere else. Up, Back and Through — Play it forward, play it back, go through the space that opens up behind the defender who chased the ball. Play backwards to go forwards. Works with two players, even better with three. Wide Play and Crossing — Here's the part most coaches don't talk about: crosses from the right and crosses from the left are different. They have to be at this age - most of your players are right-footed. I cover what that means practically for both sides, and what your left-side players should be doing instead of trying to cross on their weak foot. Plus — a U10 story that proves this stuff works the very next day after practice. 0:00 Kick-Off 1:05 Tactical - Using the Width 2:42 When you don't use the Width... 3:29 When you DO use the Width 4:34 1v1's, 2v1's, etc. 6:40 Up, Back, & Through 10:08 Cross from the right and left are DIFFERENT 11:09 Crossing Drill Video 11:25 Practice on Friday, Success on Saturday 13:02 Live action - Cross from Left (Goal!) 13:26 Wide Play opening up the Field 14:10 Clogging the field when narrow 14:29 Cross from Right (Goal!) 15:21 Combining Tactical with Technical = Success Session Video from Wide Areas: https://youtu.be/kL6NQnXFK2o Full Channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCHQkkm5iE_Xld9p49k7dlog?sub_confirmation=1 Buy an AI camera that doesn’t break the bank - and help out my town program at the same time! https://partner.reeplayer.com/soccercoachkw Join United Soccer Coaches: https://hub.unitedsoccercoaches.org/nc__createaccount?startURL=%2FNC__Login%3FstartUrl%3D%252FNC__joinrenew Amazon Coaching Items: Insta360 Ace Pro https://amzn.to/3Uj0diZ GoPro Tripod Mount - https://amzn.to/3JCtcJO 20’ Tripod - https://amzn.to/4bdSWI1 16’ tripod - https://amzn.to/4aTOi23 Tripod Weights - https://amzn.to/48z81WI GoPro Hero 12 - https://amzn.to/4aJfGzT GoPro Volta External Battery Handle - https://amzn.to/4aJfGzT 256Gb Micro Memory card - https://amzn.to/44gCNPY Insta360 X4 - https://amzn.to/4df7MQs Kwik Goal Digital Ball Pump: https://amzn.to/4blZmoK Small Tactics Board: https://amzn.to/48Ug0tP Small Magnets (Light): https://amzn.to/43iHk3S Small Magnets (Dark): https://amzn.to/3wUh6bM Big White Board: https://amzn.to/3x0NBoU Large Soccer Tactics Board: https://amzn.to/3VhzO7d Large Magnets: https://amzn.to/48RGiNv Large Magnets: https://amzn.to/3VfQxIc Waterproof Stickers: https://amzn.to/3Vfhn3b Folding Goals - High Quality: https://amzn.to/3AEITP7 https://amzn.to/4jNrsOC - How to Coach Girls - Are you coaching a girls team?
