0:01 well hello coaches coach KW here once again for our last of this quick three-part series of simple to complex drills that you can use um I'm hoping
0:10 that you're finding these useful if you haven't seen the first two please go back into the channel subscribe and like and share with your fellow coaches and
0:19 take a look at these the whole concept between these drills is that you can use one basic setup to do lots of different things this drill doesn't necessarily
0:27 get more complex but I'm showing you in this drill because you can use a very simple three to six cone setup and use it to work on and mimic game movements
0:39 that happen in different parts of the field and still have the same concept of the drill where you can work on those technical components you can wrap it
0:48 into that tactical knowledge and get your players to get a good practice in on these skills this one we call or I call the three cone shooting drill a
0:57 finishing drill it is a passing receiving and finishing drill so you get to hit a bunch of different elements it's a pretty easy setup you can move it
1:07 around to different parts of the field as we'll look at to mimic where a ball might be played from and who may play that ball into different players all of
1:17 which ends up in a shooting chance on that so let's look at the animations but before we do that I'll have to ask please hit that subscribe button more
1:26 subscribers means that it unlocks more things for me in YouTube which makes it mean that I can do some more interesting things for all of you and it really
1:33 helps the channel so subscribe like share with your fellow coaches and let's get into it now okay so here's the basic setup we're going to start with we've got two sets
1:45 of L's if you will one on the left side of the box and one on the right side of the Box extra players and balls are over
1:51 the goal line we have a player at each ball standard disclaimer cones represent Defenders so we're going to make our movements and actions in relation to those cones as if they were Defenders
2:03 checking away from the defender playing their touch around the defender so if we start on the left-and side Player 11 is going to play that ball to player four
2:12 they're going to receive that ball opened up across their body with their right foot to take a touch around the cone they play towards player nine who
2:21 has turned at a 45 degree angle to face them and the goal so their facing is important uh think of the that side of the triangle on the left the way that
2:31 they're facing that's appropriate as they check away you want them to take their first touch around the cone and towards the penalty spot so that then they can run on with one or two steps
2:43 and take a quick shot on net the idea here is players on the left are going to use their right foot to do their actions and players on the right side of the
2:51 field when they do the drill on that side they're using their left foot the idea here is to make sure that they're working both feet equally ly and so that
3:01 they're not favoring one side or another uh Additionally you can do this with or without a keeper and after they take their shot they're supposed to gather
3:09 their ball join the other line the trigger for the other side to start the movement is when the player from the other half of the field takes their shot
3:19 and then that way we have a continuous action going on so you can see here in the animation we're starting on the left hand side player 11's playing that ball
3:27 to player floor takes that touch with their right foot out playing nine is pulled away takes the touch towards the penalty spot around their cone and takes
3:36 a quick shot on net they go gather their ball and go to the other line as soon as that other shot has been taken you can see it's the trigger for the other side
3:46 to start moving it's a little delayed just because the way the animation software works but you understand once that shot's taken the opposite side of the field can start their movement it's
3:56 really important though to focus on making sure that they're using the correct foot so they don't cheat because it's so easy for them to decide I can't
4:05 take a good shot with my weaker foot I'm going to slip on to the other side you're really enforcing taking the Right Touch and taking a quick shot accuracy
4:14 is more important than power especially with your weak foot especially from that range when you're just inside the Box you're looking for them to place that ball wherever it is and you can use this
4:25 with and without Keepers if you're just focusing on striking the ball start there then if you really want to start making it more game light you can have
4:33 one or two keepers swapping in and out and they can then react in that manner lastly here's a quick liveaction demo from where I picked this up you'll notice that that player who
4:46 takes a shot actually put it onto their stronger left foot which is not what the coach wanted them to do uh and definitely while I was there you
4:54 definitely can hear the coach calling out okay now in this variation of the drill we're going to make it a little bit more game likee uh starting from the
5:02 end line might work for short Corner routine so it's definitely something that could be done in the game but here the next two variations are going to
5:10 mimic movements that happen in games all the time we've taken now the start cones and now we've put them up closer to the halfway on the outside so now we're kind
5:19 of working on playing that wide ball down the line to a player maybe from your Center back um or Center mid uh when they're out wide towards a wide
5:30 Winger and now we're going to have those movements go in a different direction now Player 11 is going to play that ball into player 10 they're going to take
5:39 that touch now in this case with their left foot so that they can then play that ball into player nine who then takes it with their right foot so now as
5:48 the ball comes in different directions you can talk to your players about when you're checking away from Defenders which foot now do you have to take the
5:57 pass with the player on the outside here is going to check away from that cone and probably take that pass with their left foot switch it quickly to their
6:06 right foot to play it to the player nine who now is still going to take that ball with their right foot to take their touch to the center dot to take a shot
6:14 then it's the opposite on the other side you have your player five on the left may play that ball uh right or left foot you decide plays it into player six
6:24 they're going to receive that on their right foot maybe they make a quick switch to their left foot to get it further away from the defender who can
6:31 then play it towards player seven who's going to take that touch with that left foot around the cone towards the center spot and in towards the goal now we have our third variation now
6:42 we're going to be working on Central play and again this is where maybe that Central midfielder is playing that ball out wide to one of your Wingers and then
6:50 we're playing it back in so again we're mimicking different movements that happen in the game we're working on different patterns of play so that you can reinforce the technical aspects of
7:01 them being able to play pass receive and strike the ball with movements in a game that they can replicate when it comes time to and they've rehearsed these
7:11 movements so now plays come from the Central Area plays out wide it's the same Concepts that we've been doing now one of the situations that sometimes happens with your teams during these
7:23 practices is they get a little lazy and they don't perform at game speed if that's the case take one of your extra players in line and make them a chaser
7:33 so at a certain point of the drill maybe after the first pass or the second pass have that extra player start now chasing the player with the ball to start to put
7:43 pressure on it it's a great way to add pressure to the activity to increase the speed of play Without Really disrupting their ability to focus on the technical
7:54 aspects of the game where they're constantly worried I'm not going to get a shot off because somebody's coming at me to defend me you're adding pressure you're adding
8:04 game speed but you're also ensuring that each one of your players gets a chance to practice the technical skill without worry about getting their chance quote unquote taken away during this phase
8:16 there's plenty of time to be doing that during scrimmages and other things but if you're really working on the technical aspect then you want to make sure that they can focus on getting
8:24 better at the technical aspect while they're learning that skill so here we have three quick animations of it what it looks like on a full game thing
8:33 here's perhaps a short corner or a ball that's been played into the channel and now has to be recycled back out that's how it may look here's one from wide
8:42 play where maybe a center back is playing that ball up to your Winger and then your Striker is making a move away and then coming back in to take a shot
8:50 and then lastly very common one you get your central mid playing that ball out wide to a Winger that's running down who then plays it looking for the player
8:58 centrally to take a shot so again very much game related opportunities in these movements while you practice the skill so that's it short and sweet I hope that you found this series of three
9:13 drills that we've done now finishing with this three cone finishing series something that's enlightening and helpful and helps you think about other practices or drills that you might do
9:23 that you might be able to take and enhance and change and modify so that you're not Bur with coming up with different setups taking more time moving
9:32 cones around then trying to explain the setup to your kids that you can get into something that's familiar to everyone and get into the practice faster and out
9:42 of the discussion phase uh this series was really inspired by this book here essential practices by for Player Development it's by Carl wild and while it's a little bit more complex in
9:54 general um basically he takes 10 or 12 setups and then shows 10 or 12 different drills for each one of the setups so that you could if you wanted to in this
10:05 book pick one of the setups and have 10 different types of drills or exercises within that same setup I'll leave a link in the description like I do for
10:14 everything else that I have here um if you want to take check it out um I found it inspiring while I can't use half of the book with 7v7 players it does get me
10:23 to think and that's what's important uh we'll have plenty of more drill videos coming up it's almost preseason here for us it's August of 24 it's been brutally
10:32 hot but we're getting ready to get back out in the fields with our kids before The Fall season starts up I'm pretty excited about that so um I'm hoping that
10:41 this little series that helps you think about some things you might want to do in your preseason so till the next video I hope you're all well and we'll see you
10:48 real soon bye
