0:01 welcome back coaches hello there coach KW here with another quick video today um I got a lot of messages on my video where we watched a third grade team play
0:11 their first game of the season it was very exciting and rewarding to see those kids in their first uh travel game ever and they had a great coach and they're
0:20 well on their way um but a lot of the comments I got in the questions I got were how do you do this I'd love to make
0:26 a video from my team on um you know watching a video and reviewing it for them and marking it up so today I'm going to do more of a technology video
0:36 If you will uh I'm going to show you exactly what apps I use um I do use Mac and iPad I'm in the Apple family I I
0:43 managed Windows machines for 30 plus years as an IT director and uh switched to Mac about a decade ago and honestly I'll never go back considering all the
0:53 nightmare as I dealt with uh uh in my other world uh but uh I have Apple products if you don't maybe this video isn't for you but hopefully you'll find
1:04 something interesting because I'm going to guess that there are probably comparable items out there in uh the windows world I just don't know because uh short of managing Windows machines in
1:15 a professional sense uh I don't have one and haven't had one in my house except for a couple gaming computers over there my kids use um in a long time so I'm
1:24 going to go through the apps I use and the process I use and we'll pull this camera down off its stand and I'll kind of show you uh how the sausage is made
1:32 as it will and we'll just do a quick video on how uh I was able to make that video and how maybe you could do the same thing when you're working with your
1:40 players all right so let's uh we're going to do some screen flips here I'm going to show you some things on my Mac and then like I said we'll kind of go
1:47 over my shoulder with the uh camera here and we'll look down and see how it all goes together okay so let's get going okay so here I am on my Mac and
1:57 I'm obviously already running uh the first app which is a screen recording app otherwise you wouldn't be able to hear or see anything but what I have
2:05 here is um on my Mac I have a couple of screen recording apps uh you can use the built-in QuickTime however it will be a little trickier to record your audio if
2:14 you want to do some audio with it so I have gone and got two different third party ones uh and honestly there isn't much to share between the two of them I
2:26 use this screencast one uh some reason use it far more at work than otherwise I used to use it exclusively but I have uh come across this screen recorder by Omi
2:37 um and it's got some great options including and I'll show a picture of the start panel but basically it gives me a bunch of tools to include uh which
2:47 microphone I want to use whether I want to do picture and picture which obviously you can see me on the screen in the bottom corner I'm using that
2:54 feature right now it gives me frame rate and some other options it does have Mark Maring tools so you could in theory use some of these marking tools to draw in
3:05 your screen but I found that it's not as effective as using something built in I've just never you can see it down here in the bottom and it gives us some ways
3:19 to draw some lines and you can change the screen the thickness and everything else I found that for some reason it doesn't always react well in terms of
3:30 um when you've got video underneath it and all these things happening it wants its focus uh again your mileage may vary if you're buying apps and you want to
3:39 try the least number of apps to try um maybe it works for you but for me I went one another step forward so I have the screen recording app so obviously you
3:49 can record anything on the screen I also now have video which I will open up we'll grab this game here um this game here you you can see I've recorded it
4:00 for my GoPro on high on the end zone I have a whole video on how you record your own games super helpful to have this tactical view maybe not as exciting
4:09 for the parents and the kids but as for coaches it's a great tool to have and so I have some video and we can play that video If I Had uh down if I had found my
4:20 original instead of downloading this off the YouTube channel um I would have have chapters usually I put chapters in wherever the goals are um but what is
4:28 nice is I can change the playback speed so from a tactical standpoint sometimes watching at 2x is more helpful than slogging through an entire thing if you're making videos for your kids
4:38 you're going to want to find three to five Clips probably 30 seconds to a minute at the most cuz otherwise they are not going to watch an hourong game
4:47 with you talking in the ear at least um let's just be honest so uh you can make Clips you can find spots that you want to go but we have video we have game
4:57 footage going on so we are are recording the screen and we are watching a video while we're recording that screen obviously and the last bit is to be able
5:08 to annotate on the video so again I went and found an app for this specifically called demo Pro when I click on it lets me know that it's running with this
5:18 little icon in the top and the way demo Pro works is it's got a bunch of hot keys to activate the drawing tools when you want to use them and it gives you a
5:27 lot of different things you can see all the different things you can throw a timer up whiteboard and the Blackboard you can draw lines and arrows I tend to
5:34 just use the freehand and I tend to just use this yellow color cuz it just seems to show up on the screens all the time you get some line width and whether or
5:43 not you need to hold the keys combination down to make it active or you click it and then you unclick it I found that I forgot to unclick it every
5:52 time so I would go to hit pause and draw a line across the screen and get really annoyed with myself so we have a way way to record our screen we've got the game
6:02 video and now we have a way to uh annotate on the video so let's just make this go full screen and so now what I can do is I can press uh the key
6:13 combination I have it set to controls on my Mac so if I pause this video here and I do contrl s you can see now my cursor
6:21 has a little yellow dot which now allows me to draw with my mouse all sorts of and things like that you can see here's my Striker and my Midfield on top of
6:33 each other a common refrain in 7v7 soccer um or maybe that's one of my Wingers because I really don't know what's happening right now but I'm going
6:42 to guess that's kind of what's going on and maybe this is my Center back here and this is my Winger on top of my Striker again it's 7v7 soccer I think
6:51 this is a one of the first fourth grade games they hadn't quite figured it out after the summer break anyways I can do that and then with another control key I
7:00 can erase all the markings and then resume the video playing back so that's quick and dirty if you want to be able to use your mouse to annotate um and
7:10 it's helpful for you that's great I went one step further one of the cool things with in the Mac world is they all talk to each other and a couple of OS updates
7:20 ago you now can uh AirPlay or screencast from your Mac to an iPad if you have one handy and signed in with the same same Apple ID uh it's the same concept as if
7:32 you were projecting your screen at a presentation or a con at a um conference or something um using AirPlay to a TV or an Apple TV and it's up underneath here
7:42 this uh option here under the screen mirroring I already have it turned on let me turn it off for a second so now you can see here the targets you can see
7:50 I've got a bunch of Apple TVs in the house and a TV that naturally does AirPlay and you see my iPad now it can do it wirelessly I find it more reliable
7:58 to plug Cable in between my Mac and my iPad so that it's wired between so now if I click this iPad option now what it gives me the what it's doing and I'm
8:07 going to tip this screen down here all right so now you can see my iPad here let me spin this around you can see the cable but now it's mirroring exactly
8:17 what's on the screen right you can see it in that picture and picture so if I make this full screen here now you can see the video is full screen here and so
8:25 I'm going to put this down so I can drive it so now I see the same thing on both and my apple pencil now works like a mous cursor and that I can click play
8:35 and then as it's playing I can hit pause and I can hit my hotkey and now I can draw with my apple pencil on the diagram that you can see so again if you're
8:48 comfortable using the most and you can get across your message that way that's fantastic um I just feel a little bit more fluid with this because if I hold
8:56 down the hotkey I can actually write words uh um whereas I can't do that with the mouse let's be honest I can't draw with the mouse hell I can barely write
9:05 with a pencil as you can clearly see right there in front of you so again it's another way to use the tools that the Mac has uh how they work together is
9:14 that it lets you use your iPad basically as a drawing tablet and you can see what you're drawing on because it's mirrored the screen it's same image on both
9:23 screens so you can easily do that and I can still use my mouse cuz obviously now I can come in here and hit play again and the play can go along and then I can
9:33 stop the play I can hit my hotkey I can show the relationships of what's going on here here's my Winger right I can do all the things that you want to do here
9:43 space and then I can erase it and then I can use my even my apple pencil to resume playback as it goes and it's recording it all so when I'm done with
9:53 whatever clip I'm working on what's nice is I can come up here I can start or pause the video if you're going to do multiple clips and you want to just string them
10:04 all together and you you know maybe you're not maybe you don't know how to use a video editor yet I use Final Cut Pro for free you could use Blackmagic
10:12 designs um Da Vinci uh resolve what you end up with if you keep stopping the videos you'll end up with a bunch of video clips I'm going to I can't stop
10:20 the video right now but if I was to stop it what you'd see is I got a bunch of files now in a folder uh with that video
10:28 file and I could Drop It Up um but if you're using this you could pause the video find the next clip in your movie resume the video mark it up talk to the
10:37 kids whatever pause the video keep playing through the game and so that way you could make one continuous file um and hopefully you know if you practice
10:46 with it you can actually get to the point where you're not saying um and ah and all the different things that I tend to stumble across I'm getting better but
10:52 it's that's in a nutshell how I can record myself on the screen and then make these videos for kids or for you honestly so uh there you have it pretty
11:06 straightforward honestly how one can record uh your screen so that you can annotate videos up it does take a few tools I'll link all the apps I use uh
11:17 there's no referral codes or anything like that it's not like I get paid to these are just the ones that I researched and found and paid for uh
11:24 they're not expensive uh they're not subscriptions I don't believe at least of versions I grabbed so you know it's a onetime purchase and they really do make
11:33 my life a little bit easier uh sometimes being able to watch a game from above uh for your kids uh even for your parents too to help educate them so that they
11:43 are you know yelling perhaps more appropriate things from the sidelines other than uh Boot It kick it and go get that ball Johnny uh really can make a
11:51 difference uh really educate them but also as a coach you can help you reflect upon what did you see and didn't see during a game um sometimes we get Tunnel Vision on the
12:01 sideline as coaches we think we are seeing everything but honestly lots of things are distracting us kids on the bench with questions uh your assistant coaches some crazy parent perhaps uh
12:13 maybe a referee who is inexperienced and doesn't know the rules and you're you're know trying to you know just manage the expectations of your kids to say hey
12:22 they're learning just like we are all those things can distract you when you're on the sideline sometimes being able to watch back a game uh and be able
12:29 to analyze it really can give you Insight of like ah I've got to remember the next time when these sort of things happen to recognize it so that I can
12:38 correct things in the moment or remind players how to do things or whatever it is that you uh do maybe you're like ah I realized that you know I I I left Little
12:48 Johnny on way too long uh just because I was too focused on something else and I you know didn't set a timer to say hey don't forget in 6 minutes you got to
12:56 make some subs and who has been out there the longest on a hot day uh any of those things so I hope you found this uh technical video useful if
13:03 you have any more questions please uh throw them in the comments I'd love to please like subscribe share uh really helps the channel and I'm hoping that
13:11 you are having a great season so far in the year and uh I hope to see you real soon all right bye
